Industrial buying is specification buying. A ball valve is a body material, a pressure rating, a thread standard and a seal, and two quotations that both say stainless can be describing different metals at different wall thicknesses.
The consequence of getting it wrong is different from consumer goods. A valve that fails under pressure is a safety event, and the buyer who installed it carries it. So the paperwork matters as much as the part: material certificates, pressure test records and declarations of conformity.

The specification is the contract
Body material grade, pressure rating, temperature range, thread standard and seal material all have to be written down. Stainless on its own says nothing, because a 304 body and a 316 body are different products. Metric and imperial thread standards are also not interchangeable, and that error is only found at installation.
Certificates have to travel with the goods
A mill certificate with the heat number, pressure test records for anything that holds fluid, and a declaration of conformity for equipment and protective items sold into the European Union. A certificate that arrives after the goods have been installed has no value.
Grade substitution is the classic failure
The same trap as cookware steel: a visual inspection cannot tell a 304 body from a 201 body, and the difference is in the service life rather than in the look. Verify the material with a spectrometer at inspection and keep the reading with the shipment record.
Repeat orders need the same part, not a similar one
Industrial buyers reorder by part number, so the specification, the drawing and the approved sample have to be archived against that part. When a factory changes a supplier of a subcomponent, that is a change to the product and it should be told to you rather than discovered at installation.

Often, if the part carries a marking or a manufacturer reference. Send the marking, the dimensions and where it is used, and we will confirm the standard it is made to before quoting.
Do you supply pressure tested items?
Where the standard requires it, yes, and the test record travels with the shipment. Tell us the working pressure and the medium so the rating is chosen for the application rather than for the price.
What is the minimum order?
The factory minimum is in the table above. Our own minimum is one piece, so a single valve or bearing can be bought as a sample and checked before a reorder quantity is placed.
Do you inspect industrial goods before shipment?
Yes, and it is where the material check happens. Inspection at the factory with the written specification in hand, through our quality assurance service, is what makes the certificate meaningful.
Can you supply spare parts after the main order?
Yes, and it is worth fixing the part numbers at the start. A repeat order is quoted against the archived specification, the drawing and the approved sample, so a spare bought eighteen months later is the same part rather than a similar one from whichever factory answers the enquiry first.
