Wholesale Wigs from China
A $90 lace front can photograph beautifully and still shed at the hairline within three weeks. In the wig trade the sample rarely lies about color or cap size. It lies about longevity, because longevity depends on hair origin and knot work that no product photo can show. Buyers who order on price alone routinely receive non-remy hair cut with synthetic fiber, or 130% density sold as 180%.
Xuchang in Henan province produces the majority of the world’s wigs and extensions, and the cluster runs on two very different tiers. One tier does OEM lines for established brands in North America and Africa and keeps its material claims honest. The other tier sells on marketplace margins and treats “100% human hair” as a flexible phrase. Knowing which tier a factory belongs to matters more than the number on the quotation.
Select Trade has sourced hair products out of Xuchang and Guangzhou for five years, and the checklist below reflects what actually goes wrong: origin mixing, density inflation, lace swapped between sample and bulk, and knot bleaching that weakens the hairline. Here is the cluster map, the realistic price bands, and the inspection points that catch problems before shipment.
Where the factories are
Xuchang dominates, though it is not the only cluster worth knowing.
| Cluster | City | Strengths | Typical MOQ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xuchang hair district | Xuchang, Henan | Human hair wigs, bundles, closures, braiding hair; deepest raw hair supply | 1-50 pcs human hair, 100-300 pcs synthetic |
| Heze / Juancheng | Heze, Shandong | Lower-cost synthetic wigs and mixed-hair extensions | 200-500 pcs |
| Baiyun district | Guangzhou, Guangdong | Lace fronts, HD lace work, fast e-commerce runs, African market styles | 30-100 pcs |
| Yiwu trading belt | Yiwu, Zhejiang | Cosplay and costume synthetic wigs at the lowest unit cost | 120-240 pcs |
For human hair, Xuchang stays the default. For synthetic cosplay volume, Yiwu and Heze price 20 to 30 percent below Xuchang on equivalent specs. Our industries overview maps the other clusters we work in.
Price ranges you should expect
Indicative ex-works bands. Hair input costs move with raw hair supply and the yuan exchange rate, so treat every number here as a planning figure.
| Product type | Factory price range | MOQ | Lead time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Synthetic braiding hair | $0.80-3.00 per pack | 100-300 packs | 10-15 days |
| Basic synthetic wig | $4-12 per pc | 100-200 pcs | 15-20 days |
| Human hair bundle, 12-20 inch | $18-65 per bundle | 10-50 bundles | 15-25 days |
| Lace front human hair wig | $35-120 per pc | 1-50 pcs | 20-30 days |
| HD lace closure or frontal | $15-55 per pc | 20-50 pcs | 18-25 days |
Final pricing depends on hair origin, length, density and current raw material costs, so confirm against a live quotation before you plan margins.
Check origin claims before you check the price
Remy, virgin and raw hair are three different price tiers. A factory that quotes “raw” at a mid-range price is selling remy or worse. Three practical checks: state the origin, for example Vietnamese or Indian temple hair, in the purchase contract with a penalty clause; require hair that has not been acid-washed, because acid stripping removes the cuticle and causes the matting buyers report after ten washes; and budget roughly $150-300 for an independent lab report on a bulk lot when the order value justifies it.
Assume the bulk will be worse than the sample
Sample rooms are built from the best material in the workshop. Ask the factory to pull your bulk from the same hair lot as the approved sample, photograph the lot bags when production starts, and book a mid-production inspection at 30-50% completion. A third-party inspection in Xuchang runs about $260-350 per person-day, cheap insurance on a $20,000 order.
Where the real negotiation room is
Unit prices in this category move less than buyers hope. A 5% discount on the unit price usually means the hair grade dropped a notch. The room sits elsewhere: consolidate two or three cap styles into one order to spread the dye-batch cost, standardize cap sizes instead of full custom sizing, and supply your own packaging artwork while paying the factory’s box cost directly (about $0.30-0.80 per unit at 500+ boxes) so the quote stays auditable.
Quality risks specific to this category
Shedding comes from loose knots or glue-heavy ventilating, and it shows up two to four weeks after the end customer starts wearing the piece, which is past your return window. Tangling follows acid-stripped cuticles. Lace tearing at the hairline means the lace gauge was swapped after sampling. Bleached knots turning orange signal over-processing. Write all four into an AQL checklist, because a standard visual inspection will not catch any of them. The detailed sourcing notes live in our wigs and hair extensions guide, and our services page lists what a managed order includes.

Frequently asked questions
How do I verify a supplier is selling real human hair?
Layer the tests. Burn a few strands from the bulk lot: human hair smells like burnt feathers and leaves brittle ash, while synthetic melts into a hard bead. That test still passes for mixed lots, so second, put the origin and the processing method (raw, remy or acid-washed) into the purchase contract. Third, for orders above roughly $15,000, pay for a lab cuticle test. Added cost: under $300.
What MOQ makes sense for a first order?
For stock human hair styles, 10-30 pieces across two lengths is enough to judge a factory. Custom cap construction or custom colors start to make sense at 50-100 pieces. Synthetic volume usually breaks even on tooling and packaging at 100-200 units per style.
Why did my reorder feel different from the first order?
Reorders drift because the PO only says “lace front, 150% density” and the factory optimizes cost on the repeat run. Freeze the spec: lace type and origin, knot method, hair lot, cap elastic. A one-page spec sheet attached to every PO prevents most of it.
Can I put my own brand on the packaging?
Yes. Printed boxes run $0.30-0.80 per unit at 500-1,000 boxes plus a one-time plate fee around $30-80. Hang tags cost less and work fine for a first drop.
