Wholesale Three Drawer Steel Filing Cabinets from China
The steel filing cabinet is the office’s oldest furniture purchase and still a volume container item: sheet steel, slides, an anti tip interlock and powder coating. The quality spectrum inside one drawing is set by steel gauge and slide class, and both are specification lines a photograph cannot carry.

The failures: cabinets that rack out of square because the steel was thin, drawers that bind or drop when extended because the slides were the cheapest class, and interlocks missing on tall cabinets, which is the safety feature the office inspector looks for first.
All three are testable in the warehouse. The category context is in our office furniture overview.
Steel, slides and the interlock
Steel gauge is the cabinet’s skeleton: side panels, drawer bodies and the top that users inevitably sit on. Thinner steel prices better and racks sooner, which shows as drawers that stop running true. Slides divide into roller, ball bearing and full extension classes; the class decides both feel and life under a loaded drawer.
The anti tip interlock lets one drawer open at a time on tall cabinets, and its presence and action are a safety specification in several markets. Powder coating is the finish, and its cure quality decides whether edges chip on the first office move.
Specifications and minimum order
Steel prices move with the metals market, so live figures come with the quotation. Fix these points.
| Specification | What to confirm before you order |
|---|---|
| Steel gauge | Thickness per panel named, drawers and top included |
| Slides | Roller or ball bearing, extension class, load rating |
| Interlock | Anti tip mechanism fitted on tall cabinets, action tested |
| Lock | Central lock type and the keying scheme |
| Finish | Powder coat colour, cure quality and edge coverage |
| Packing | Knock down or fully assembled, carton spec and pallet pattern |
| Pedido mínimo | Tens to hundreds per colour in practice; container fill shapes the number |
Our minimum order is 1 piece, so a loaded, cycled sample is approved before any production commitment. The production minimum follows the colour and container fill, and we confirm it in writing. Our sourcing service screens the metal plants in the standard clusters.
Slides are the everyday experience
Users never see the steel gauge; they feel the slides every day. The loaded extension test, full extension with a rated load through dozens of cycles, is the bench check that predicts the five year experience. A slide that binds under load is a specification failure no coating can hide.
Knock down versus assembled is the second commercial decision: knock down containers fill efficiently and shift assembly risk to the customer; assembled cabinets arrive true but ship air. Our container consolidation service prices both honestly against the rest of your load.
What belongs in the purchase order
- Steel gauge per panel, named
- Slide class, extension type and load rating
- Anti tip interlock on tall cabinets, action tested
- Central lock and keying scheme
- Powder coat colour and edge coverage standard
- Packing mode and carton spec
Checks that catch the repeat failures
- Loaded extension. Extend loaded bulk drawers fully fifty times; binding and drop show early.
- Square check. Measure diagonals on bulk cabinets; racking means thin steel or sloppy welding.
- Interlock action. Open two drawers at once on bulk tall cabinets; the interlock either stops the second or does not exist.
- Coating edge check. Inspect edges and folds; uncured or thin powder chips at the edges first.
- Top load test. Press the top hard; the panel users sit on is a specification line too.
These checks are standard work in a pre shipment inspection, and our factory inspection service covers metal furniture plants. For the fuller method, see our pre shipment inspection guide.
Preguntas frecuentes
Is knock down packaging a false economy?
It depends on the customer: office dealers with install crews love knock down; end users returning dented panels do not. We price both modes and the container maths usually decides. Either way the steel gauge and the slide class stay frozen in the specification, so the packing mode changes logistics, never quality. Our minimum order is 1 piece for sampling either mode.
What is the anti tip interlock?
A mechanism that permits one open drawer at a time on tall cabinets, stopping the open and lean accident that injures people and topples cabinets. It is a safety line in several markets, and we verify its action on bulk units.
Why did my last cabinet batch rust at the edges?
Powder coat cure or pre treatment shortcuts show at folds and edges first. The edge check on bulk units catches it before the container closes, which is cheaper than repainting in your warehouse.
