Checks that catch the repeat failures
- Ball joint play. Measure play on bulk joints with a dial gauge against the standard; numbers, not thumbs.
- Bushing twist. Twist bulk bushings cold and at room temperature; brittle compounds show at the low end.
- Coating coverage. Inspect coating in hidden cavities and weld seams; skipped areas rust first.
- Casting porosity. Tap and inspect bulk castings; porosity shows at the mounts under load.
- Fitment verification. Compare bulk units against the application data or a physical reference part.

Factory pressed with the correct tools keeps the bond quality consistent and shifts the risk to the supplier. Pressing your own makes sense when you stock bare arms for many applications. Why do bushings fail by climate?
Compound. Rubber compounds are formulated for temperature range and chemical resistance, and the cheapest compound passes a showroom inspection and fails a Winnipeg winter. Specify the climate, test the compound.
