Wholesale Heavily Beaded Gowns from China

A heavily beaded gown is priced by the hour, not by the metre. Thousands of beads and sequins are applied by hand, one panel at a time, and the workshops that do it well are the reason the Chaozhou cluster exists. It is also the category where the sample and the shipment can be furthest apart, because bead density is the one specification a factory can thin without changing the silhouette at all.

Wedding gown with a heavily beaded bodice displayed on a dress form The photograph shows a representative gown from the category. Bead density, motif layout and skirt build follow the order sheet, and the image is illustrative rather than a picture of your goods.

We have sourced beaded gowns out of Chaozhou for five years. The same three failures come back. A bodice that carried a dense motif layout on the sample arrives visibly thinner in bulk. Beads shed from the hem into the shipping bag, and keep shedding in the customer’s stockroom. And a backing fabric thinned to save cost lets the beadwork pull and pucker the panel it decorates.

This page covers what the beadwork words mean, what belongs on the order sheet, and the checks that catch a weak lot. The cluster structure is in our wholesale wedding dresses overview.

Materials, density and the backing

The beads themselves come in tiers. Glass beads hold their shine and their colour; acrylic beads are lighter and cheaper and scratch white; crystals are the premium tier and are usually measured by the panel rather than by the gown. Sequins carry their own grades by finish and by cup shape. What matters on the order sheet is the mix, named, because the mix is what a factory adjusts when it needs to save an hour per panel.

Density is the honest specification. The number that works is motifs or bead count per defined area, measured on the approved sample and required on the bulk. A photograph is not a specification; a counted square of the sample is. Factories that do this work properly will agree the measurement, and the ones that will not have answered the question.

The backing decides whether the beadwork survives wear. A firm backing spreads the weight of thousands of beads; a thin one lets the fabric pull between stitch points, and the puckering is visible across a whole bodice. Backing weight is a line in the specification, and the pull test on the bulk is how it is verified.

Specifications and minimum order

Our minimum order is 1 piece, so you can start with a single unit and scale up once the sample is approved. Every line below changes what the workshop applies. We do not print prices or schedules here, because beadwork is hand labour and labour calendars move; send us the design, the density and the quantity, and we come back with a live quotation and a firm production slot.

Specification What to confirm before you order
Bead mix glass, acrylic, crystal and sequin grades, named by panel
Density motif or bead count per defined area, measured on the retained sample
Backing the backing fabric and weight, since it carries the beadwork
Application stitched or glued, named, because glue fails at the dry cleaner
Lining a full lining that hides thread work and protects skin from beads
Design reference the physical sample retained by both sides as the density reference
Pedido mínimo stated per design, since each layout is its own bench programme

Minimums in this category are genuinely hand-driven, and a single design in one colour runs far more consistently than a spread of designs. Our sourcing service covers the workshop screening, the sample round and the inspections below.

What the shedding and finishing words mean

Bead shedding is the failure customers report first, and it has two sources: under-secured beads at the hem and edges, and a thread that was cut rather than finished. The factory-side answer is a finishing standard, and the buyer-side answer is a physical test: shake the finished gown over a clean surface and count what falls. A gown that sheds in the stockroom sheds on the customer.

Thread and stitch quality is the layer under the beads. Anchored stitches, knots that sit inside the work and threads that match the fabric are the invisible half of beadwork quality, and they show up as longevity rather than as looks. Asking how threads are finished is a fair question for a workshop that does this work daily.

Two commercial points complete the set. Beaded panels weigh real weight, which changes the packing and the freight, and a hanging garment bag beats a tight fold for anything heavily decorated. And dry-clean behaviour is a legitimate pre-shipment question, because glue and unstable dyes are both found by the cleaner rather than by the customer’s first wear.

What belongs in the purchase order

One page attached to the PO is what protects the reorder. Cover these points:

Inspection points that catch a weak lot

These checks find what a product photograph cannot:

An independent inspection before loading is where all five are cheap to catch, and in beadwork the density check is the one that protects the brand. Factory inspection covers this category, and the workshops behind it are mapped in our evening gown hubs guide.

Preguntas frecuentes

Why do beaded gowns vary so much between factories?

Because the price is mostly hand labour, and hand labour varies with the workshop’s bench discipline. Two gowns of the same design can carry very different bead counts inside the same silhouette. That is why density has to be measured on a retained sample rather than described in words.

Can beads be attached by machine?

Some beadwork is machine-applied, and it is consistent and honest for repeating patterns. Hand application is what allows individual motif placement, and it is where the design value sits. Either is acceptable; the method just has to be named, because the two behave differently over time.

How should beaded gowns be packed?

Hanging or softly folded with tissue at the decorated panels, in a bag that does not press the beadwork flat. Beads crushed in transit stay crushed. The packing specification belongs on the purchase order because it is a decision made at the bench, not in the warehouse.
